| Mission:
To create public art
that enhances cultural awareness, stimulates community development
and establishes partnerships between artists, communities, schools
and businesses.
Vision:
We are the premier resource
for innovative and socially conscience public art projects.
About Us
ArtworkZ
projects involve mentoring relationships between
professional artists and students to produce community based
public art.
Inspired by their travels around
the US, Europe, Africa, Asia, Mexico and Canada founding artists,
Reginald Adams & Rhonda Adams conceived what is now the
ArtworkZ Public Art & Design Program.
ArtworkZ initially began as a tool
for the Adams to refine their focus towards creating public
art and working with inner city youth. The size and scale
of their projects required the assistance of other artists.
This provided an avenue for the Adams to introduce the powers
and pleasure of public art to at-risk and inner-city youth
and emerging artists.
Collectively, the founding artists
have been instructing multidisciplinary art classes and workshops
since 1993, touching the lives of thousands of children around
Houston. Upon receiving
new commissions they call upon these young students along with
professional/emerging artists and local residents to help design,
develop and produce the public art projects.
The ArtworkZ program was developed
to become an educational model for public art and mural production.
Driven off of the energy and creative talents of the students
and professional artists ArtworkZ produced more than a
dozen public art projects by the end of 2000. We have now worked
with over 600 youth, 20 professional artists, and neighborhoods
throughout Houston.
In July 2001 ArtworkZ was dissolved
as a general partnership and merged with MOCAH to serve
as the official public art & design program.
During the recent years strong
relationships have been developed and nurtured with Houston's
leading public service organizations, businesses, learning institutions
and agencies such as:

Now MOCAH utilizes the ArtworkZ
model to reinforce our mission to
provide the public with art related programs, services, products,
events, and activities, which enhance creative awareness, social
health, and education through the use of cultural arts.
By joining students with professional
artists we are able to reinforce the impact and value that their
work has on the community while providing the youth and artists
hands on community development experience.
Through this program we have developed
public art projects in virtually every community in Houston.
We are going to those who are unable to come to us.
We will continue to develop and create
innovative strategies that allow artists, communities, and businesses
to collaborate successfully.
Along with the design and production
of public art projects, MOCAH also provides contract consultations,
project management and artistic selection for customized public
art projects.
We don't just make great art, we
make great artists. Click on one of the project links
