Through a series of expressive art workshops, Art Angels Artists provided Texas Children's Cancer Center patients an opportunity to create their own visual and literary works of art onto large bandage-shaped paper. Patients were encouraged to creatively express themselves through imagery, designs and poetry that reflected their personal experiences and stories of the medical challenges they face. The workshops took place in April and May, during regular clinic hours, to facilitate maximum participation of the patients, siblings, and parents visiting the clinic.
This public art masterpiece will make its official debut in September 2001 as the center of attention for the TCCC Arts in Medicine Making A Mark 2001 Exhibition, which features artwork by patients and siblings who have been touched by cancer and blood disorders.
The TCCC 'Courageous Cowlage' will be among 300 creatively transformed cows that will be grazing around Houston as part of the Cow Parade Houston 2001. This unique public art exhibit of life-sized fiberglass cows designed to celebrate the spirit of fun, art and community throughout the city of Houston September 9 through November 7, 2001. The cows will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting the Building for Children Capital Campaign at Texas Children's Hospital and TCCC.
