• To involve area residents in the cultural and artistic redevelopment oF the GGD through the usage of original artwork used for the streetscape banner project.
Summary:
MOCAH is currently working with the Greater Greenspoint Management District on a Streetscape Banner Project. The GGD Streetscape Banner Project is composed of a unified system of street post banners, designed to identify Greater Greenspoint District communities. The front and backside of each banner serves as a “canvas” for artwork by the selected student artists. We are working with six art residencies at Black, Bussey Elementary, Eckert (Intermediate), Stovall Middle, Harvest Academy (Private School) and Aldine High School to design the banners. These three-week long residencies have facilitated the development, creation and production of the streetscape banner designs and six related paintings.
The residencies began in September 2003 and commenced October 2003. During each residency a MOCAH artist worked with selected students from each participating school to create an original work of art based on the designated community theme. The artists worked with each school three days per week, 1 1/2 hour per day for three weeks to develop six banner designs reflecting the various communities of the GGD.
