Cultures of our World is another public art project of the Museum Of Cultural Arts, Houston (MOCAH). Thanks to the leadership and vision of Principal Steve Amstutz, MOCAH is producing five tile mosaic murals for the cafeteria of Lee High School. LHS has one of the most ethnically diverse campuses in Houston, with over 70 countries represented in the student body. The murals will reflect the diversity of the campus through brightly colored handmade ceramic tiles. Reginald Adams, lead artist and Prince Maduekwe, assistant artist are working with approximately 18 students from LHS to produce the murals. The students have been divided into five teams, with each team working on one or more continents and related subject matter. The murals will reflect cultural elements from each continent including: Arts, Animals, Dress, Food, Religion, Entertainment, Sports, and Architecture. Each team is responsible for researching and integrating their research into a final design, which will in turn be transformed into handmade ceramic tiles. The images below show the students in the design phase of the project. Additional images are forthcoming.
