The Ortiz Mural Project is a 5’x18’ painted mural that will be used as wallpaper inside the new Amegy Bank inside the school campus. The purpose of the art project is to provide a creative background and presence in the school’s new bank. The bank will provide the students with an opportunity to learn how to save and manage their money. The bank will accompany the school’s new entrepreneurship class, to connect the students with business commerce in their community. It is important that the students have a sense of ownership with their branch of Amegy, as to encourage both the development of financial awareness and artistic expression. The mural theme consists of landmarks from the student’s community as well as the city of Houston. Sims Bayou is a major landmark that the students incorporated into the imagery of their mural. They also included wildlife that lives in and around the Sims Bayou. The dollar bill on the bottom right corner represents the foundation of monetary value in our society. Hobby airport, a major source for commerce and travel, is also represented in the mural. The kids running to fly the book as a kite, is a symbol of where education with take if you are determined and focused.
